Botulinum consultation
The medical use of botulinum is an established treatment for neurological movement disorders, excessive salivation, and chronic migraine. It is used in particular to treat spasticity and focal dystonia and can help improve mobility, relieve pain, and enhance quality of life. In our botulinum therapy program, patients receive counseling and, if necessary, treatment.
Botulinum therapy with Dr. Wolfgang Fogel, M.D.
Dr. Wolfgang Fogel, an experienced senior physician at the Zihlschlacht Rehabilitation Clinic, is available to provide botulinum therapy. Dr. Wolfgang Fogel has been working for many years in the field of the diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders. Botulinum treatment is one of his areas of specialization.
What can you expect from botulinum therapy?
- Personalized Consultation: Discussion of the conditions relevant to you and available treatment options, such as focal dystonia (cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, writer’s cramp), sialorrhea, chronic migraine, and spasticity following a stroke or multiple sclerosis.
- Targeted treatment: Injections using very fine needles under ultrasound and/or EMG guidance to precisely inject botulinum toxin into the affected muscles or glands.
- Improved Function and Care: Reduction of muscle tension to facilitate physical and occupational therapy; improved care for spastic deformities (e.g., adductor spasticity, spastic fist); and relief of painful muscle tension associated with spasticity and/or dystonia.
- Comprehensive Care: Assessment by an interdisciplinary team, tailoring the injection schedule to the individual’s specific situation, and counseling on the benefits and possible side effects.
- Long-term treatment planning: Since this is an ongoing treatment, the approach is regularly reviewed and adjusted.
